The time has come "again" for one of the biggest event of ICC. This time the world cup is being held in Sri Lanka between Sept. 18, 2012 to Oct. 7, 2012. As it had been a sort of tradition, the T20 world cup will be held in three stadiums namely, Pallekele Cricket Stadium, R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium, Mahinda Rajapaksha Cricket Stadium.
Point system and tie-breaking rules:
The points will be awarded as follows during the Group Stage and Super Eight:
Group Stage:
The format will be as, the teams are divided into four groups of three teams each a shown below:
Group A: England, India, Afghanistan
Group B: Australia, West Indies, Ireland
Group C: Sri Lanka, South Africa Zimbabwe
Group D: Pakistan, New Zealand, Bangladesh
Each team will play two match in the group stage. At the group stage on two teams out of the three will forward to Super Eights.
Super Eights:
During the Super 8's, the eight teams are divided into two groups Group E and Group F.
Group E will consist of top team from Group A and C, second teams from Group B and D i.e. A1,B2,C1,D2
Group F will consists of top team from Group B and D, second team from Group A and C i.e. A2,B1,C2, D1.
Knockout Stage:
Top two teams from Each Group will qualify for the knockout Stage and the knockout will be played as :
Semi-final 1 : E1 vs F2
Semi-final 2 : E2 vs F1
The winner of these matches will play the final on 7th Oct. 2012.

- No result: 1
- Loss: 0
In case of a tie during a match, meaning that two teams scoring the same number of runs. The match will be decided by a Super Over. This will be applicable at all stages of the tournament.
At any given points the teams will be ranked by the following criteria:
- Team having maximum points
- If equal, higher number of wins
- If still equal, higher net run rate
- If still equal, lower bowling strike rate
- If still equal, result of head to head meeting.
