Cricket - India Unforgettable moments (World Cup)

There are certain moments in the history of Indian Cricket that can be hardly forgotten by an Indian Cricket Lover, which are many. I have tried to list some of the moments that will always remain fresh in my mind. These events are only linked to World Cup, I am sure there are many more like these but I have only limited this list to the World Cup matched. If you think of more such events please do leave them as a comment. I will try to add them to the list.

1983 - Kapil lifting the Prudential Cup in Lords, the first ever World Cup win by Indian Cricket team. The moment when Kapil Dev held the trophy aloft on the Lords stand, presented by the Duke, will always remain fresh. The scene features prominently on the Proud Moments of India shown on any kind of program followed by Srikant opening the champagne bottle on the famous Lord's balcony. The moment is not only fresh in Indian minds but also the administration of Lords who will tell great stories of that day.

1992 - Fight between Javed Miandad and Kiran More, how can we forget the frog jumps by Javed Miandad done to irritate Kiran More who was appealing excessively and the revenge was well taken when India beat Pakistan and the only team to beat the Pakistan in 1992 world cup.

1996 - India Vs Pakistan at Bangalore, I remember the moment when Aamir Sohail was hitting Venkatesh Prasad to all corners of the ground. He was in the peak form, just when he committed the mistake of his life. He flashed his bat towards Prasad as if trying to say I will keep hitting you like this or go and fetch the ball. The incident was good enough to charge Venkatesh Prasad who clean bowled him on the very next ball, uprooting his leg and middle stump. The whole stadium erupted with hell of a noise as if the whole country took the revenge. This is one of most remembered moments among the young generation that if there is talk about Indian Pakistan cricket, this will be referred to as "The Moment".

2003 - Sehwag and Sachin hitting Shoaib Akhtar for six in similar fashion one after another. During the World Cup of 2003, India were playing Pakistan and Shoaib Akhtar had said that he has devised a ball to tackle the explosive opening pair of India. First Tendulkar hit Shoaib for a Six over point and in the next over Sehwag hit him for a six in the same spot. This was the time when Sehwag was getting out of control for any bowler. This moment is such that these two bowls are never shown separately on any TV, they will always come together.

2007 - This was the worst World Cup, ever, for Indian Cricket. People still remember the ashamed faces of Indian Cricket team coming back from the Caribbeans.

2011 - World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka, everybody was kind of hoping that this would be the last World Cup Sachin might play. So when he got, suddenly India was speechless. Then walked in the then Captain, M S Dhoni or MSD. He and Yuvraj played an innings that eventually brought the world cup to India. The last bowl that Dhoni hit for Six and when he swung his bat he was not even looking at the bowl, he was staring down as if enjoying the ball and without bothering that this might be the winning shot.

2007 - First Twenty World Cup, already down with the loss in the Caribbean nobody knew what to expect from Indian team. The Indian team started with a tied match between India and Pakistan, which was eventually won by India during Bowl-out. Although there are lots of moment in the world cup that remain fresh like winning catch by Srisanth, smiling face of Joginder Singh. However, the most remembered will always be Yuvraj hitting six sixes of Broad, it happened in the same way as did Aamir Sohail's dismissal during 1996 World Cup. Yuvraj and Flintoff had some heated argument between them, so much so that Yuvraj was trying to hit him with the bat. This was good enough to charge Yuvraj Singh and he launched himself into Stuart Broad and hit him for Six Sixes in the next over. The scene gets more dramatic when Flintoff start to shake his head on the boundary line.

2012 - Another World Cup is starting soon in Sri Lanka, lets see what new moments are created and whether they are good enough to erase some of the above from our memory.

Although there are more moments like Srisanth hitting Morkel for Six in the test match and then dancing in front of him, or Matthew Hayden being clean bowled by Srisanth. Harbhajan doing the ground run after dismissing Ponting again and again. Some of them were not in World Cup the list might be endless, so I just trying to list the moments from the World Cup matches only.
