Cricket - ICC Twenty20 World Cup Warm up Matches - Day 1

Ok Guys, the World cup has kicked off with the warm up matches. Sept. 13 saw Ireland vs Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka vs. WI. West Indies looked a team that may not be able to take the burden of being favourite and Ireland seems like a team that is going to create some type of upset, if not upset then atleast going win some hearts just like they have done till now. Let me predict one thing, Ireland is one team to watch for they will be regular on the cricketing calendars very soon. Anyway, let us concentrate on the coming up world cup. So here is the analysis report:

Ireland Vs. Zimbabwe:

Batting first Ireland scored 181/5 of their allotted 20 overs, which is a decent score in 20-20 match. Their star batsmen the Brien brother seems to be in good nick (based entirely on the scorecard.) Although the top three did not score big what all of them were in double figures atleast and as the time progress they can improve as they will get use to conditions and pitches.

On the other hand Zimbabwe's bowling looked pretty ordinary most of their bowlers gave away too much runs. Even the highest wicket taking bowler Mpofu gave away 39 runs for his three wickets in 4 overs. Vitori was the only exception.

In the second innings Zimbabwe were only able to score 127 loosing by a margin of 54 runs. Their batting line was not what you would expect from a team playing in the world cup. Apart Masakadza and Ervine, none of them played good, they were not even able to score in double figures. They might argue that Ireland bowling was way better but then you are playing at the international level you should be able to adjust.

Coming to the Ireland's bowling, they were good but some of them needs to improve a bit. However, my guess is that this team is here to stay and they have players who can raise their game when the situation comes.

Overall:
Ireland : Decent start, should improve as the time progresses
Zimbabwe: Needs to improve a lot if they want to see themselves into the second round. Otherwise get ready for a thrashing.

Sri Lanka vs West Indies:

Batting first WI could only manage 132, which I think is below par score for a team that is being talked as the favourite to win the World Cup. They definitely needs to improve this. It looks like they are being burdened by the Favourites Tag, even their bowling was nothing like World Champions as Sri Lanka managed to score this total in 15 overs and 9 wickets remaining. The only thing, that one of these team would be wishing for is Law of Averages and other team hoping the law does not catch up.

Overall:
West Indies: Need to improve a lot, so that they live up to the favourites tag.
Sri Lanka: Hope that the law of averages don't catch up and they are not peaking too early in the game.
