Yesterday there were no warm up matches played. Today there are four warm-up matches that are going to be played, all played at the same time 9:30 AM IST. The matches are as follows:
Afghanistan vs. Sri Lanka A
Australia vs. New Zealand
Bangladesh vs. Zimbabwe
India vs. Sri Lanka
The pre-analysis of these matches is as follows:
Afghanistan vs. Sri Lanka A: Afghanistan is not even given a chance to play against a full test nation. The only real match they will be playing will be on 17th Sept. against West Indies. However, I think Sri Lanka should be able to win it easily. They should have more experienced players than Afghanistan.
Australia vs. New Zealand: This is the first big match of today. Australia is placed at 10th in the international 20-20 ranking and that has hurt their reputation badly. The way they have responded is by thrashing Pak in Dubai. They may be high on that win and some hurt egos can always lift Aus game. They might use the warm-up match against NZL to send a strong signal to other teams. NZL might get a big thrashing. However, NZL have just won a match of nerves against India, which should have given them some confident. Brendon has hit the form against India. It may turn out to be a very interesting match. Although, Australia should win this match easily.
Bangladesh vs. Zimbabwe: Although they are equal as far as the their reputation goes, still Bangladesh should be able to win it comfortably.
India vs. Sri Lanka: Considering the current form of these two team in recent 20-20 match, India is no match for Sri Lanka. The only silver lining is that India is an unpredictable team and you never know which side will turn on the day. Considering this Sri Lanka should be able to win this match comfortably.
Results:
Afghanistan vs. Sri Lanka A : Afghanistan won a big margin of 51 runs, contrary to our thinking this team looks in better position than what we thought earlier.
Australia vs. New Zealand: As expected Aus thrashed NZL and won by 56 runs. NZL was all out for 83.
Bangladesh vs. Zimbabwe: As expected Bangladesh won by 5 wickets.
India vs. Sri Lanka: Again unpredictable India won a match which was supposed to be Sri Lanka's match. Sri Lanka was not able to score 146 runs and were able to score only 120 runs.
